All I can say is what a trip!!!
After my flight got changed at the last minute, 3 connections, I finally made it to Ecuador.
First I got to Quito @ 10pm. Let me say that Quito is a city high up in the mountains, breathing can be difficult when you just come out of the plane. To my biggest “surprise” my luggage were not there. After having waited almost an hour I was told by the American Airlines representatives that it should arrive on the next flight. Now I move on to the Taxi area where supposedly someone will be waiting for me. But hey guess what no one is there. I saw a Hilton Colon van, from the hotel that I am staying, I approached the driver that was waiting in the van. He did not seem to be to sure if he should talk to me. After all a tall black man with dreads is not common in this city, and just by what we see on TV we do not always have the best reputation. Anyhow we were able to discuss with my broken Spanish that I should wait 20 minutes for the next van, which I did. 15 minutes later the same driver then decided that he was going to bring me to the hotel.
Day 2 Sunday, comes and guess what still no signs of my luggage. I called the American Express ppl to make a claim, I had to fight with the bad phone connection and got hung up several times by the call center person due to connection issues.
I go see the American Airlines representative downstairs at the hotel, she says she is very sorry, yadi yadi yada…. To make a long story short I only got my luggage on Tuesday.
